With a vision to inspire Texans of all ages to love reading, the Texas Book Festival connects authors and readers through experiences that celebrate the culture of literacy, ideas, and imagination. Founded in 1995 by former First Lady Laura Bush, Mary Margaret Farabee, and a group of volunteers, the nonprofit Texas Book Festival promotes the joys of reading and writing through its annual Festival Weekend, the Reading Rock Stars program, the Real Reads program, grants to Texas libraries, and year-round literary programming.
Summer Book Club with Elizabeth Crook
Texas Book Festival was proud to partner with the Houston Chronicle to present a summer book club on July 17, 2024. The public was invited to read "The Madstone" by 2023 Texas Book Festival featured author and Texas Writer Award recipient Elizabeth Crook. Then, readers joined us for a live virtual event with Crook, Chronicle senior reporter Sarah Smith, and Texas Book Festival Development Director Susannah Auby.
